Deer rich in cholesterol? I checked several nutrition and calorie counting websites and I found that one serving of venison, say between 25 and 40 percent of the daily intake of cholesterol based on a 2,000 calorie diet. This makes the venison so high cholesterol?
Deer like any other red meat has a lot of cholesterol, as if from an animal. Every animal has cholesterol in each of its cells. Even we humans have a lot of cholesterol in our body. Cholesterol plays a crucial role in our body as componets of cell membranes and that is why we and other animals have a lot of cholesterol. Therefore, the cholesterol content in meat is so high. The cholesterol in meat from animals that live in cold climates is particularly high because they have extra fat in their bodies to keep warm. Thus, the higher the cholesterol. Just check the cholesterol content in ground beef.
Remember that this is why everything that comes from an animal has cholesterol and all that comes from a plant source will not.
Hope this helps!

I do not think this is true. I always said that since cholesterol comes from animal fats, deer, bison, elk, rabbits and other wild game are much lower in cholesterol than beef or pork. When my ex-husband had a deer, he would add beef fat to the meat just to make it viable, there was so little fat in it naturally. Anyone else???
