I recently had a problem with some of my Isa Brown chickens become egg bound. What would cause this? I have not had this condition in other breeds of chickens and I was wondering if you could relate to the intensive farming of chickens that I bought a free range livestock together.
Egg bound could be related to three questions: 1. There was not enough protein in the female's body to push the egg. 2. Your chicken may be overweight, and his muscles were too contracted during the time she had to push the egg. 3. It may be too young to have eggs, proper development of the bird of a woman devloper bodies when they are about four months, but preferably reproduction atleast 1 year.
For a serial number, egg laying can cause recessive to that question. But if it's his first time laying eggs, I would say more power from protein, and ensure it is in good health, as related egg is sometimes very fatal. For two numbers problem, use a program to see if weighing whether or not she is overweight. Being egg bound birds are generally very common, so if you want him to continue to lay eggs, make sure to watch his health and diet. Hope that helps!
