Can anyone tell me where to find the ingredients for Haggis? I visited Scotland last summer and fell in love with haggis while I was there. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the sheep's lungs, heart, intestines, etc.. They are not exactly avalible to you local supermarket. Btw I live in Birmingham, Ala., so if anyone knows of any places near here that the products would be more useful.
Take a look at http://www.scotlands-enchanting-kingdom.com/haggis-ingredients.html
You can find lots of information here Haggis.
INGREDIENTS Haggis
A sheep's stomach thoroughly cleaned and scalded, turned inside out and soak overnight in cold salted water.
heart and lungs of a lamb
1lb/450g beef or lamb
2 large onions, finely chopped
8oz/225g oatmeal
Salt 1 c. soup
1 tsp teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp teaspoon dried coriander
1 tsp teaspoon cinnamon
1 tsp teaspoon nutmeg
Enough water to cook the haggis
stock from the lungs
Even Birmingham, Ala., has one or two "real" butchers where animals arive in a truck rather than a plastic bag! Try one of them.
Otherwise, if you're a hunter (or know) you can make a fine haggis with deer heart, lungs, intestines, meat and fat bottom with herbs and spices, stuffed into the bag deer stomach and boiled for some time .. ..
A butcher is your best bet although you may have to buy a sheep and take it to a butcher and talk to him taking care of the business for you.
Go to the farm, buy a sheep, drain, then pushed her womb within her womb others.
