What is the best food you can feed a diabetic cat /? This cat is a female spayed, 9 years, and also overweight. It is on the cat food special VET. It has recently been put on insulin 2x a day instead of once. She did not lose weight, even if it is limited in its power. She does not like canned food that my sister got to the vet, so she eats the dry (I think it is OD) Are there other foods recommended for a diabetic cat?
Hello
I own and have adopted cats diabetes as well as helped many people learn to cope with this disease.
Your cat is very smart. OD is not for diabetic cats and cat food diabetic DM and MD are not so hot either. Dry food should not be given to cats and even less a diabetic. Dry food is the No. 1 reason cats get diabetes in the first place. The best thing you can feed canned food with no sauce.
Fantasy is a food festival in the Middle of quality cat and is very good for diabetics and better for diabetics, and the makings of order.
The thing is lower carbohydrates can reduce insulin requirements and with you not test (I assume) there is no way of knowing the impact on dietary change may have on blood sugar.
Here is another thing. It should not be limited in its power now. If blood sugar is too low, cats sometimes eat to protect themselves if food must be available for it.
Please contact me if you want to learn how to treat this disease and take control. Include the type of insulin, how much you GIV, at diagnosis and the name of the food you eat. I will be happy to assist you.
Your profile will states do not allow emails, so I would have to contact you.
We started with Purina DM, which is a good food, but my cat was allergic to something if we had to pass him by Royal Canin Siamese 38, he did much better with that.
They must have high protien and low carbs, so a little good food bill. The bag of money Wysong called "Vitality" is good. It is the EVO, and a few others.

I've never had to treat diabetes in a cat. I have two cats with cancer and I belong to Yahoo groups where people discuss salaries, support, etc.
There is a Yahoo group for diabetic cats. Contact me to get to http://www.yahoogroups.com and started searching for feline diabetes, and then request membership in the group (there may be more than one). This is the best place to be to know what the plans are more effective with diabetic cats.
I just heard that a diet rich in meat protein quality - not carbohydrates - is preferable to keep the insulin regulated successfully. In fact, it is the best approach to cancer too many carbohydrates supposed to "feed" the cancer growth.
My diabetic men has been on Purina DM for about six months now and since he was about it, we were able to reduce his insulin dose. The vet said we could possibly be able to control blood sugar by diet alone - which would be great for giving shots every 12 hours is not exactly fun for both of us.
Be aware, however, that my cat was originally on Hill's ®, and the mark was the only brands to be prescribed on the recall list. So please be careful when you look into the purchase of food for your baby.
Follow the advice of the veterinarian and the EFF also know she is not losing weight. To speak to a veterinarian on the activities and exercise for the cat. Not only does it require a reduction in fat and calories and limited supply of parts, but the exercise and activity. She seems to lack exercise, food portions are too large, or the diet is not enough. The question said that the cat is diabetic, it is something you definitely want to discuss with your veterinarian before doing it yourself.
Speek yo.
