Crabcake FactoryEditors, Guide to Ocean City, Maryland

Plan your trip:

After visiting Ocean City as a child, as a parent, and now lives with my grandchildren gave me a unique perspective on what Ocean City has to offer. On a day trip to a vacation, I'll give you my opinion on things I know over the years.

Things have changed over the past 50 years, but not as much as you can think. Gone are the sand dunes and the desert that existed north of 60th Street when I was a child. They have been replaced by condominium high-rise shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and residential buildings of all possible configurations.

The walk, which now stretches from the cove at the south end of Ocean City 26th Street. Most of the action "is 4th Street South. If you want to stay where the action is, I recommend staying on the sidewalk. It is a very good if you have teenagers or simply as hustle and bustle atmosphere. Even the walk can be broken down into how much action you want. The further from the entrance to the more relaxed walk becomes. See my article, Where to Stay for a complete list that each area of Ocean City is like.

Although not everyone likes the same entertainment, I will assume that the main reason to come to Ocean City is the ocean. Our beaches are fairly uniform throughout Ocean City with broad expanses, very clean and the lifeguards on duty each block with the communications systems linking the entire range. The only major exception to this rule is the entry about 6th Street, the area has a very wide range with volleyball and playgrounds. It's good for visitors every day and children, but difficult for the elderly and disabled. Beach access from the end of the promenade north-east is limited to paths through the sand dunes at the end of each street. Rental of chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards are available on each input block from the beach (from today). There are many places to eat lunch along the promenade, but to make other plans for lunch if you stay out of the walk. See the rules of beach for a list of do's and don'ts.

To break the action and have a more relaxed day at the beach I recommend Assateague Island Assateague Island State and National Park. Although the current fleet begins to enter, you must drive about 15 minutes to reach the park entrance. Take Route 50 west of Highway 611 south. Highway 611 ends at Assateague Island. Here you will find the State Park and National Park. The State Park is a little more expensive to enter, but has a snack bar. Personally, I prefer the National Park because it has more to offer. While the State Park is limited to a snack bar, the park has canoe rentals, tours, crabbing pier, and a 4 wheel drive single region (with license). Fires are allowed on the beach at night from the low tide to high tide. Both areas offer supervised beaches, picnic tables, picnic, grills, restrooms and showers. Campsites are available in both parks, but advanced reservations are almost always necessary.

Entertainment does not stop at the beach.

The boardwalk offers rides, games, arcades, shops, and of course food for the kid in all of us. Sa
